I developed this blog so that family & friends could follow the recovery of my 5th Spine Surgery. When I was 16yrs. old I was dropped from a pyramid in cheerleading & developed a syrinx (blood/bruising around spinal cord)@ T7. As a result I developed spasticity & traumatic scoliosis. Avoided surgery for 8yrs. doing intense pt & w blocks. My curves progressed & I had 1st surg. in '02. The 2nd portion was never performed so I developed flatback, my surgeon ignored it so I found a surgeon in NC. In'05 2ndsurg(13hrs) A&P, cages,& osteotomies.4mnths ltr was leaning to L, my L-fusion failed & screws were loose so had 3rdsurg.,he made decision w/o consulting us to remove rods in Tspine. In'06 4th rev. to re-inst. rods, surgeon decided no & did work to L-spine,&added a 3rd rod, & a nerve @ L5-S1 was damaged. In recovery my parents & pts saw my R foot was contracted leaving me to live life in a wheelchair. I moved to OH. & had intense pt 5days a wk for 8mnths. Had 2 foot surg. 9mnths apart,an ext. fixator 4 mnths & cast 6mnths. Since 2nd foot surg. it is more functional. 5th spine surg.w/Dr.L is addressing sev. issues.
